Oak Ridges

The Community name of Oak Ridges was from Oak Ridges Moraine, a critical ecologic landmark in the south of Ontario. Many parks, hiking trails and reserves in Oak Ridges are ideal for families enjoying the quiet environment and outdoor experience.

Community Overview

The Oak Ridge community is at the northwest corner of Richmond Hill. The community runs from Yonge St on the East to the edge of Oak Ridges Corridor Conservation Reserve in the south, Bathurst on the West, and Bloomington Road on the north. It borders Aurora City in the North and King Town in the West.

1. Housing:

The primary real estate built-up in Oak Ridges happened after 2000, and many homes in this Richmond Hill Community were detached dwellings. Freehold townhouses and semi-detached homes making up most of the remaining concentrate on the main street close to Bloomington, Bathurst and King Road. There are also a tiny amount condo apartments and modern condo townhomes sitting close to Yonge Street and Bond Crescent. Many houses were also built between the 1950 and 1980s, including small bungalows and neo-colonial-style homes. Homeownership in Oak Ridge is very high; around 92% are owners.

From MLS listings, in the past 90 days, Oak Ridges Richmond Hill sold 29 detached houses on average of $1,801,806; 22 Attached town home, Semi-detached and Link houses on average of $1,291,931; 2 Town homes on average of $861,000.

2. Demographic:

The descendants of early European immigrants still dominate the community. With more new immigrants moving into Richmond Hill in recent years, the major ethnic groups in Oak Ridge are now Italian, Chinese, Iranian, and Indian.

3. Transportation:

Residents will need a car to live in this part of Richmond Hill, though there is limited public transit available on the major roads of the community.

4. Recreation:

There are too much natural scenery inside the Oak Ridges community, plenty of parks and reserves, and many hiking trails and golf fields. At the southwest corner of the Oak Ridges is Bathurst Glen golf field which spans one kilometre from Bathurst street. Grovewood Park also offers a soccer field, basketball court, tennis courts and kids playground.

5. Shopping:

The shopping in the community is not very convenient, but one can find supermarkets, coffee shops and some restaurants on Yonge Street. With the increasing residential real estate developments, there are more and more shops coming each year.

6. Schools:

King road is the school zone boundary where Oak Ridge Public School serves the northern community and Kettle Lake Public School serves the southern Oak Ridge. Windham Ridge Public School is a French Immersion Elementary School that serves northern communities in Richmond Hill. For high school, students from Oak Ridge need to travel a bit far to King City Secondary School, the East of Dufferin. Families can also send the children to Cardinal Carter Catholic High School, on the border of Bloomington Road, or Ecole Secondaire Catholique Renaissance at the intersection of Bathurst and Bloomington. Both schools offer International Baccalaureate (IB) diplomas to students.

Residential houses at Oak Ridges are relatively new. The price is more affordable than most parts of Richmond Hill. Oak Ridge can be a perfect place to settle down for families with two or more children.
